We’re back for the third year! Join Team “Trusting the Journey” for #Biketober (Georgia Commute Options’ #AtlantaBikeChallenge). We currently have six spots open. Simply go to LoveToRide.net, sign up, and select Trusting the Journey as your team. You qualify for a chance to win prizes every time you ride for as little as ten minutes (however slowly you want), but you’ll probably consider the riding the best prize of all. Oh, and don’t get hung up by that “commute to work” phrase. Here’s how I define it.
Additionally, the team gets points every time you ride. All I ask is for a minimum commitment of ten minutes a week, please (which could be just a ride around your block).
Separately, we get BIG points when you encourage someone (!!!), plus also for total miles (so if you like to log a lot of miles, you’re welcome too, such as returning team member Bill Black). Folks who are new riders are worth extra points, so you are actually extra valuable if you currently don’t ride at all!
No bike? No problem! Try bikeshare in the metro Atlanta cities of Atlanta, Suwanee, Alpharetta, Roswell, Carrollton, and Smyrna, as well as the Cobb CID and other random places where it’s popping up (including just last week in Dunwoody, pictured). (Although it’s Lights Out now for Jump ebikes.)
Two years ago, muddling along like this, we came in FIRST in our pool and 16th in the entire metro area! Last year we came in second in our pool, which was equally shocking considering how low-key we are. You’re pretty much on your own (or join with a friend) during the challenge (so no big group time commitment) although I do try to cross paths with every team member at least once during the month, and I do post a weekly team update. Plus, by automatically including your ride data through the Love to Ride app and by posting photos (if you want) to our team page, we create our own little online support group. It’s fun.
If you or someone you know could use a lesson or two to feel more in control on bikes during #Biketober and beyond, I am giving classes in Brook Run Park in Dunwoody, Georgia on the next two Sundays, which I am currently offering at a super-steep discount off the comparable REI price in honor of Biketober coming. See more information, select your date, and sign up here (registration is required). If you join our team and think you would benefit from this class before the challenge kicks off on October 1, contact me and I will include you in one of the two upcoming September dates for FREE.
If you don’t join our team, please consider joining or starting another team wherever Biketober challenges are happening anywhere in the USA. Not up to riding (for whatever reason), or wanting a little extra inspiration to trust the journey wherever it is taking you in life? Check out my book, Traveling at the Speed of Bike, about a woman — and a country — at a crossroads.
I hope to see you out and about, on bike or not. Say hi if you see me! Here are some of the other nice folks I’ve met while Traveling at the Speed of Bike (from my ongoing photo essay on Instagram titled Today’s Nice Stranger):
You might be surprised by the nice people (starting with your fellow Trusting the Journey teammates!) you meet, too.
UPDATE: Our team is FULL. Please consider joining or starting another team.
