Why you may not see more regular folks

In case you were wondering why regular folks who may want to run errands on bike at the mall or retail/service locations nearby, or bike-commute to work in the area with the largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the southeastern US as #OneLessCar aren’t using the new, unprotected bike lanes, take a look at what it’s like to ride in them above. That’s a 45 mile-per-hour zone, which means motor vehicles are often traveling at a speed up to 55 mph. (Also, please note this is a particularly un-busy time of the day, plus it’s light out, which commute times aren’t always.) Would you like someone you love to do this ride?

See more about riding a bike in this city and others (plus why safe-access-for-all matters) in my book, Traveling at the Speed of Bike.
