More than 250 kids have new-to-them bikes this weekend thanks to Free Bikes 4 Kidz Atlanta and all the folks who donated, cleaned and fixed them. This was my third time volunteering and it was one of my favorite experiences of the year. The smiles. The hugs. The hope of happy bike rides ahead for innocent children, and the look of pride in the eyes of the parents to be able to give their kids this joy.
It was all a good reminder to me why I advocate for safe-access-for-all (mostly by existing as an aging woman, in public, on a bike). Those kids are out there now. Please slow down when you are driving, and encourage city halls all over metro Atlanta and the USA to make these roads safe for everyone now, not in twenty years.
