It’s time to plant garlic. You separate garlic heads into cloves and then plant each one pointy side up, as deep as it is long, about two inches apart in loose, healthy soil. I have a bed already cleared at the food pantry garden for it.
I get organic garlic for planting at Whole Foods in my neighboring city of Sandy Springs, Georgia. I hardly ever go there anymore because it is too dangerous to get to on bike, and I hardly ever drive my car anymore. I estimate I’ve diverted at least $400 a month times 12 months times eight years to other stores (and online) that I can access more safely. That’s, well, let’s run the math, that’s . . . $38,400 (!) that Whole Foods has lost from me (and the subsequent sales taxes to the City of Sandy Springs) because I couldn’t get there safely.
I rode there, today, however, and that’s because the city has built some multiuse paths. I spent $14 on garlic, and that’s just the beginning of what’s to come.
Yes, bikes do mean business. (Note to Whole Foods Sandy Springs: Please add a bike rack.)
