Think of Horace

Think autonomous vehicles are ready for our cities’ streets? Not until they are ready for scenes like this and many, many other outside-the-box situations — such as when the figure in front of the vehicle can’t be defined as either pedestrian or bike rider, or when our most vulnerable road users may need a little extra help or time or lattitude.

(Note: This man was completely turned around on the sidewalk on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, and I asked him if he needed help before escorting him across the street. He could have very easily walked into the street not in a crosswalk. It could have very easily have been nighttime when this happened.)
