You have probably read the statistics about the sharp decline in children walking and riding bikes to school. You may not really realize how dramatic it has been until you see the empty bike racks. In the suburb-city where I live, it would have taken 65 students riding their bikes to school today (which was the first day of school here) to equal a minuscule one percent. Only 11 did. That’s less than .2%. Ouch.
To the eleven students who rode to school, l say, “Bravo.” I know it’s not easy out there, and I know you may sometimes feel alone. But you’re not. And my hope is that more young people will soon join you.
