As I’m reading this astounding book, I am thinking about the many friends of mine who have been trying to raise awareness and inspire change regarding our environment for many years (especially to my older friends who came of age around the first Earth Day in 1970, and to those even older who grew up with Victory Gardens and everyday resource-conservation habits). Many of these folks are absolutely exhausted from the doors that are continually slammed in their faces, even now as we face a clear emergency. I have a direct message for them.
I want you to know we need you now more than ever. Please don’t give up. You are heroes, and I salute you. Every single person younger than you who is trying in any way at all to make a difference stands on your shoulders. It matters. You matter.
