Talk to people who grew up in the 1970s — the heyday of bike sales and usage — and you see that glint in their eyes. It never goes away. Now, I’m not saying this was a time of no troubles, because, my god, it was full of them. But we either didn’t know about a lot of it (no internet!) or we rode our bikes to escape what hit home for us.
I’m still figuring out all the stuff that happened during those years (and my recollections in chapter one of Traveling at the Speed of Bike may tickle some memories alive for you as well). The bottom line feeling, however, is sheer joy when I get on my bike, especially when being bombarded today with so much bad news on a daily basis.
Aren’t you tired of adulting all the time for like the last 30 years? Why not take as little as ten minutes today and feel like a kid again? If you need a little help getting back in the banana seat, check out my upcoming classes in Boston, New York City, and metro Atlanta.
