My reaction surprised me. I had seen the Kendeda Living Building (officially named the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design) before, both on a hard hat tour of it I had taken back in March and in passing many times while developing my Sustainability-in-Action bike tour for Bicycle Tours of Atlanta.

muscadines!

But yesterday was my first time visiting this beyond-LEED-certification innovation since it was completed, and it is so beautiful and inspiring in person (it is not just sustainable, but regenerative, and joins a very small number of such buildings in the world) that after standing there in awe (that solar roof! those muscadines growing up the wall!), I suddenly started to cry.

Wow. If that’s the effect a building can have on a human being, just imagine what’s possible.
