As I was zipping down the 2-way mostly* protected bike lane (cycle track) on the south side of Atlanta’s Piedmont Park yesterday on Relay Bikeshare, I did not know that the good news was about to be announced — the City of Atlanta has finally earned official Bicycle Friendly Community certification from the League of American Bicyclists! This was its first year applying, and frankly, the jump to Silver is most likely going to be an easy one because this city is knocking it out of the park (so to speak) on so many of the requirements for this designation.
Bravo, Atlanta, and the other 40 new and renewing communities — and to the 450 others with still-active certifications as well. You can see the lists here. You can see my View from the Handlebars (which includes a lot of photos while Traveling at the Speed of Bike around Atlanta and in other Bicycle Friendly Communities such as Santa Monica and New York City) here.

See here for links to buy my book, Traveling at the Speed of Bike, on Amazon in all global markets. I’m an indie author and your support is greatly appreciated. A portion of proceeds from the sale of all books is donated to help more women and girls ride bikes. Currently, that means funding my ability to do “Pedal Power with Pattie” Basic Bike Skills Classes for Women for free.
