This is Andrea. She did not grow up riding a bike, yet you wouldn’t know it to see how happy and comfortable she has become on one. However, she lives about a half mile from the park where I taught her a free Pedal Power with Pattie bike skills class yesterday, and just getting to and from the park safely and legally on a bike is a huge challenge for this young mom.
Andrea has the goal of commuting by bike to the global headquarters of State Farm, which is located in the area with the largest concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the southeastern United States, in the suburb-city where we live. It’s a four-mile commute each way, filled with serious access-for-all issues (some of which you can read about in my book). And yet, we both have hope, especially if a planned pedestrian/bike bridge across the creek shown in my video below gets built soon. Maybe in time for National Bike to Work Day on May 18, 2018? Stay tuned.
